What is generally known as the East-West Confrontation is also being played out on the continent of Africa. Angola is a typical example of this conflict which has been raging for 14 years. The Alva Accords of 1974,signed by the tree nation a-list movements and the powers in place at that time, foresaw a peaceful period of transition and free elections leading to national independence.
